Black Humboldt operates as a community-driven, social - cooperative organization. This structure is intentional, reflecting our commitment to shared leadership, inclusion, and collective decision-making, these are skills we are still sharpening but committed to as an organization. Black humboldt is intentionally working with cooperative governance, community-driven participation and an open-door policy, so please reach out if you have an idea, program, project or idea for collective/community representation, betterment and joy.
Black Humboldt does not operate under systems of traditional power hierarchical structuring, instead, decisions are made collaboratively by a combination of staff, community members, and participants through unanimous agreements. Leadership responsibilities are shared among Alchemists, who steward key growth and development, Cultural Innovators, who steward key projects, programs and collaborations and a Black Leadership Board, which oversees broader organizational direction. Black Humboldt thrives on active community involvement, with temporary paid opportunities and volunteer roles for individuals to contribute to programming, events, and organizational priorities. We maintain an open-door policy, ensuring accessibility and encouraging the public to participate in decision-making processes.
Community members can attend and participate in internal dialogs during board meetings, our annual meeting, surveying at events or can request to attend a BH Hub meeting.

Building Black Community | B.MEN
I'm a behavioral consultant with over 15 years of experience providing one on one support and consultation to individuals with developmental differences and their families. Sierra (my wife) and I recently started an independent practice together and have been developing our practice since December 2024.
For 25+ years, I've studied social movements, focusing on grassroots organizing, community regeneration, and autonomy within the intersecting context of black freedom struggles and indigenous struggles for autonomy. This work has led me to concentrate on popular education pedagogies, collective leadership practices, grassroots research methods, and popular assembly processes.
