All are welcome to a Family Literacy Party Library Tour with Brazilian Capoera Contramestre Espaço Mendes hosted by Humboldt Literacy Project and Humboldt County Library.
Make an instrument and learn songs and stories of Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art combining self-defense, dance, music, and acrobatics.
Depending on the space, this may be inside or outside the library and there may be a Capoeira demonstration or chance to learn a few moves!
Espaço Mendesis a Brazilian Capoeirista, dancer, and mover who has dedicated his life to Capoeira since he was 18. He trained, taught, and performed in Sao Paulo before his 12,000 mile journey to California. He taught Capoeira in the Bay Area for 12 years and now teaches classes for all ages at Dell'Arte International in Blue Lake and at Redwood Raks Collective in Arcata.
