Born in Berkeley and raised in Oakland CA to Haitian and German immigrants, Rafi B grew up learning through the legacies of activism and protest set by the Black Panthers. Listening to Haitian elders at his grandmother’s house talk of the struggles of leaving the Caribbean for California cultivated in him the understanding that life is precious, music is sacred, and unity is strength.
