Black History Month Educational Workshops Series: Sharing Our Stories

Black Humboldt is proud to present our Black History Month Educational Workshop Series! The series will take place at The Outer Space Venue on the corner of M and 11th in Arcata and is open to the public, POC and Non POC communities of all ages. The event will start at different times through out “president’s week”. This is an opportunity to educate and familiarize yourself with the social justice issues surrounding race, diversity, inclusion, power and privilege that affect POC’s residing in Humboldt county everyday.

The series will include three separate workshops lead by different arts-activists/educators and professionals living in Humboldt County.

Monday: 2/18/19 President’s Day : Join Arts Activist Mo Desir from 2-4 pm to discuss introduction themes around social justice; what it is and why we need it, race and cultural diversity.

Thursday: 2/21/19: Join The Word Humboldt Team from 6:15 - 8pm for “Sharing our stories” where the team will lead participates through a number of writing exercises to help POCs and non POCs share their stories with each other for a chance learn about people outside of their communities.

Saturday: 2/23/19: Join Word Humboldt and Mo Desir from 3-5pm for the next step in this process of learning to dissect how race, institutionalized isms, power and privilege all contribute to the equality and equity issues we see POCs facing in Humboldt County.
