“We’re really just trying to bring all the intersections of Blackness together,” said Mo Harper-Desir the co-founder of Black Humboldt. “Celebrating folks in the African diaspora and not kind of concentrating on all the trauma that comes with the story of slavery and concentrating on the liberation and the joy– as we continue to fight for equal rights and freedom.”

There, various Black-owned businesses will be tabling throughout the day-long event. Black Humboldt aims o create employment and monetary opportunities for the local BIPOC community by hosting allowing those vendors to sell their products and by hosting organizations like the local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter, which provides mentorship opportunities for Black youth.

So it is with the celebration planned by Black Humboldt, set for Saturday Noon to 10 PM in Halvorsen Park in Eureka.
