Where are you from?
I was born in Humboldt County. Grew up between Humboldt County and The Bay Area.
How long have you lived in Humboldt?
I've lived in Humboldt County on and off for 32 years.
How did the business come to be? (little backstory)
Growing up in Humboldt county I found it hard to find hair products to maintain my own hair. So about 5 years ago I thought of opening a beauty supply store in Humboldt county to provide for other woman in need.
How old is your business and what pushes you to do the work?
I've been in business 2 1/2 years. I love what i do! I love providing quality products to woman in need. I've gotten such good support from the community and that’s what keeps me going.
Where are some areas, or moments, when you’re happy to be living in Humboldt?
I spend so much time at my shop. Its become my happy place. To connect with people from all walks of life. It feels really good to help boost peoples confidence and make them happy.
Where are some areas or moments that make you feel the opposite?
I grew up here, so my biggest fear is my son growing up here and not having a fair chance to grow to his full potential.
What are some things you’re grateful/thankful for?
I’m thankful For the support from my community. It's really be uplifting and keeps me going.
What are some things that inspire you?
My son is my biggest inspiration. Making woman feel good about themselves inspires me.
What’s something you would tell your 8 year old self?
Don’t stop keep going! It wont be easy but it will be worth it.
Why is BH’s work important to you?
It's important that black people in Humboldt be heard and have access to what they need when in Humboldt county. I feel like you guys are truly invested in the black community and that is something I’ve never seen in Humboldt County.
